Hall County wreck claims life of Cleveland woman, two others

A Cleveland woman was among three people who died in a Sunday crash in Hall County. The two-vehicle wreck happened on Ga. 365 just south of Kubota Way around 12:10 a.m. on May 30, according to information released June 1 by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Pedestrian dies after being hit on Helen Highway

A Gainesville woman died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Ga. 75 (Helen Highway) near Tom Bell Road on May 29. Rosa Alba Perez, 63, was heading east on the highway, not in a crosswalk, when she was hit by a northbound 2002 Nissan Frontier, according to a report from Cpl. B.D.

Crews respond to house fire on Helen Highway Thursday afternoon

Firefighters responded to a fire late Thursday afternoon at a home in the 4000 block of Helen Highway, near Yonah Mountain Road. According to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy, when fire personnel arrived on scene they discovered the structure was about 50% involved.

COVID-19 case count in December at highest yet in county

December has set a new high for confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County as the rate of new infections continues to rise. The county has had 450 cases so far this month, according to a Dec. 22 report from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Cleveland honors Police Chief John Foster at retirement celebration

Retiring Cleveland Police Chief John Foster was honored at a reception Thursday, Dec. 17. “I really appreciate the city, and it’s been an honor to serve here,” Foster said.   Mayor Josh Turner read a proclamation declaring Dec. 17, 2020, as Chief John Foster Appreciation Day.
