The start of White County High School's graduation May 28 has been delayed an hour due to impending inclement weather, according to a Friday afternoon announcement.
The event will now begin at 9 p.m. instead of the originally scheduled 8 p.m. Stadium gates will open at 7 p.m.

Main Street in Helen shutdown

Main Street/Hwy. 75 in Helen was shut down due to a truck pulling down power lines and a power pole on Tuesday, May 25.
According to the City of Helen, a transfer truck hit the powerlines along Main Street/Hwy. 75 and Alpenrosen Strasse.

According to Cleveland Police Department Chief Jeff Shoemaker in a press release, at approximately 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, officers responded to a residence on Bertha Court in regards to an unresponsive person.

Lady Bears fall in NAIA national softball tourney

After opening the NAIA national softball tournament with a win, the Truett McConnell Lady Bears saw their season come to and end Tuesday with a pair of losses.
The Lady Bears, the No. 3 seed in the Hattiesburg Regional, opened the tournament Monday with a 4-3 win over No. 2 seed Central Baptist.

The city of Helen is threatening penalties for a restaurant and bar following multiple complaints, citations and a fine, according to officials.
During the May 18 Helen City Commission meeting, Police Chief Brian Stephens voiced his concerns about alleged incidents at The Hayloft Restaurant & Bar.

Public access defibrillator installed in city downtown

A new life-saving device is now in downtown Helen.
The automated external defibrillator (AED) recently installed in the marketplatz was donated by Student Docs for Shocks, a non-profit organization that works to educate people about out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, said founder Chris Griesser.
