Hot air balloons will fly in Helen Saturday in honor of first responders.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, many ballooning events have been cancelled, said Tarp Head of Tarp Head balloons. One such gathering was to take place Oct. 3, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Almost 140 students swap from digital learning to in-classroom

White County Board of Education members recently heard an update on digital distance learning (DDL).
From Sept. 18-25, parents and students were given the option to make a switch in how they were learning, either go from DDL to in-person or go from in-person to DDL.

September sees 300-plus COVID cases

White County has reached over 800 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Health report on Tuesday, Sept. 29, White County had 837 confirmed cases since the first one was reported in mid-March.

Jobless rate here continues decline

The unemployment rate in White County fell again in August.
A report released last week by the Georgia Department of Labor show the county’s preliminary unemployment rate for August at 2.9%, down from 4.4% in July. It’s the fourth consecutive month the rate has declined since rising from 3.

Community remembers June Parks

June Parks is being remembered for her love for the community and commitment to children.
Parks, who passed away on Sept. 23 at 82, was the first principal at Jack P. Nix Elementary School when it was a primary school.
